Special Educational Needs and Disability
Welcome to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Department at West Exe School. Our team is led by Karen Mellish, the Deptuy Head for SEND. She has more than eight years’ experience working in Special Educational Needs and Disability and holds a Masters of Education Degree from the University of Bristol in SEN. She is also an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) .
The SEND Department includes the Learning Support Team which is managed by Helen Green, the Assistant SENDCo and a committed team of specialist Teaching Assistants. In addition, there is the Well-being and Phoenix Centre which is run by Vicky Joslin and Sue Willey, our Early Help 4 Mental Help (EH4MH) Champions.
West Exe School is an inclusive school and offers a range of provision to support students from Year 7 to Year 11, who experience difficulties with Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health problems, as well as Sensory and/or Physical needs.
